Is 4K are really important for smartphone users? Is 4K the future of smartphone? Sony had their guts for making the world's first smartphone running a 5.5" 4K Triluminos display with the total of 806 PPI. Decent specs for a high-end smartphone: Snapdragon 810 Octa-core CPU, 32 GB internal memory with micro SD expansion up to 200 GB, 3 GB of RAM, 23 MP with Hybrid Autofocus back camera and 5 MP front camera, IP 6/8 rating of waterproof, and it is running Android 5.0.1 out of the box, with upgrades for Marshmallow available to download separately. My unit is the international variant supporting dual SIM with the chrome finish. I have been using it as my daily driver for the past couple of weeks and I kinda like it for all around smartphone who I personally appreciate the build quality.
Now let's talk about my testing results. The good thing is the Sony UI is on point with no hiccups when using it normally. The bad thing is the phone overheats easily during YouTube playbacks and also after updating it to the latest software. Another point that I want to mention is the battery life hasn't been improved after the initial update to Marshmallow. I mean seriously what can you expect from a phone having a 4K display but always rendering in 1080p for saving battery?
I tested the camera quality going on full-use of the sensors, image quality is superb and I took some sample on my Instagram account. Having a micro SD expansion is so handy at times when 32 GB of internal storage doesn't necessarily enough for media consumption or even saving files in general. Network speed is pretty decent with LTE support using Vodafone network in Melbourne area and also WiFi speeds are as expected when I am at home.
Putting all those specs out from the way, the ordinary person just looking forward to spending a little bit of money just for an all around phone with superior build quality and also a 4K panel should be considering the Z5 Premium. But the question before actually buying the phone still remains up until now, should you buy this phone just because of the marketing hype of 4K smartphone?
